Creation workshop under the tutelage of Ana Sokolović
February 2013 – From June 30 to July 13 2013 at Orford Arts Center, Ana Sokolović and composer Jean Lesage offer a unique 2-week workshop made to order for young composers just starting out in their career. Focused mainly on writing for small ensembles, the workshop will be two-facetted: theoretical and practical. Students will vastly benefit from a true collaboration between various interpretative and compositional sectors. Also, their works will be performed by the students in the different performance workshops. This whorkshop is also open to musicians wishing to participate as performers. They will work directly with creators and will have the chance to perform in various student concerts.

Ana Sokolovic received the Jan V. Matejcek New Classical Music Award
November, 2012 - SOCAN proudly saluted its members’ outstanding achievements at the 23rd annual SOCAN Awards, held Nov. 21, 2012. Ana Sokolović received the Jan V. Matejcek New Classical Music Award. Sokolovic noted that “this is to me a concrete proof of the love I have found in Quebec society since I moved here 20 years ago.” She went on to urge the teaching of music and voice to children from elementary school. “Art spurs the imagination, and imagination moves society forward.”

Dora Award for Outstanding New Opera goes to Ana Sokolovic’s SVADBA-WEDDING
June, 2012 - Celebrated composer Ana Sokolović took the Dora for Outstanding New Musical/Opera for SVADBA-WEDDING! Commissioned by Queen of Puddings Music Theatre and premiered in June 2011 to great critical acclaim, SVADBA- WEDDING was nominated for 6 Dora Mavor Moore Awards. The opera will be touring nationally and internationally in 2012-13.

Ana Sokolović recognized as a « national treasure »
April, 2012 - This April the Homage Series reaches its summit in celebrating composer Ana Sokolović. Recognition has been garnered in the artistic, political and educational milieus. On April 17th, Christine St-Pierre, Minister of Culture, Communications and the Status of Women will issue a statement to the National Assembly, requesting that Ana Sokolović be recognized as a “national treasure”.

SMCQ devote the third Hommage Series to Ana Sokolović
September, 2011 - SMCQ’s Artistic Committee has unanimously decided to devote the third Homage Series to Ana Sokolović, for the scope, diversity, and quality of her work; for her original artistic approach, her dynamism, and her credibility before the most renowned institutions, and; for her sensibility to audiences of all ages. The whole cultural milieu is invited to promote and acknowledge this key figure in today’s music by integrating one of her works to their 2011/2012 programming or by starting a project around her work.
