SVADBA-Wedding in San Francisco

April 2016 – After a premier in November 2013 in Philadelphia, the opera SVADBA-WEDDING will return to the United States from April 2– 10, 2016, presented by the San Francisco Opera at the Taube Atrium Theatre. The opera is directed by Michael Cavanagh with co-music directors Dáirine Ní Mheadhra and John Hess.

Creation workshop under the tutelage of Ana Sokolović

January 2016 - From July 31 2 to August 13 2016 at Orford Arts Center, Ana Sokolović and composer Jean Lesage offer a unique 2-week workshop made to order for young composers just starting out in their career. The summer 2016 course will be divided in two parts, one theoretical and the other practical, and will have as main axis the writing for small ensembles. Students will benefit from working closely with the new contemporary music performance course under the direction of Véronique Lacroix. All works created during this course will be recorded and many of them will be presented in concerts at the Academy. In addition, short works for solo instruments, composed on site, will be created by students of various interpretation courses.

Ana Sokolović is awarded the 2015 Serge-Garant Prize by the Émile Nelligan Foundation

November 2015 – The Émile Nelligan Foundation is pleased to announce that composer  Ana Sokolović has been awarded the 2015 Serge Garant Prize. The $25 000 award was presented during a ceremony at the Chapelle historique du Bon-Pasteur on Tuesday, November 24 at 5:30 pm. Jury President Réjean Beaucage stated: “By transposing her own roots and personal identity into a vibrant and universal culture, Ana Sokolović composes music that connects us not only to Montréal, but to Toronto, Aix-en-Provence, and Belgrade.”

Second commission for the National Arts Centre in Ottawa

November 2015 – A second commissioned work by Ana Sokolović was premiered last November, the result of a rich collaboration with the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. Entitled Golden slumbers kiss your eyes, the piece is dedicated to Mario Bernardi, the founder and Conductor Laureate of the NAC Orchestra who passed away in 2013. The work takes the form of a reflection on the cultural contributions of newcomers to Canada. The collaboration began in 2009 when Sokolović was awarded a prestigious National Arts Centre Award, which includes a series of commissions, residencies, and teaching positions over a five-year period.

A new work by Ana Sokolović performed three times rather than once!

March 2014 - The captivating vocal world of Musica Intima meets the rich instrumental textures of Turning Point Ensemble and Nu:BC Collective in a serie of three concerts at the Chan Centre’s intimate Telus Studio Theatre. Three works of Sokolovic, including a premiere written for the Turning Point Ensemble with the long captivating title: « …and I need a room to receive five thousand people with raised glasses » or « What a wonderful day, the birds are singing Alleluia » will be performed.
